If you like the idea of catching a film during your break, look no further than the Plaza Cinema. This independent cinema was built in 1936, and still retains its charming Art Deco style. They show everything from family favourites to regional releases, as well as regular live screenings of theatrical shows. The cinema has good disabled access, and hosts autism friendly screenings, so everyone has the chance to lose themselves in a good film.

Truro Bowl

If the weather decides to turn against you, why not nip into Truro Bowl for a game or two? There’s eight bowling lanes, an arcade, bar and restaurant, so you can enjoy a few hours of fun and games, as well as a delicious meal during your visit.

Royal Cornwall Museum

With hundreds of historical objects, originating from both Cornwall and the rest of the world, the Royal Cornwall Museum is a great day out for all the family. It’s the only museum in Cornwall that contains pieces from the Ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian eras, along with one of the finest art collections in the UK. Children will love the interactive exhibits, workshops and explorer packs. 

For kids

Raze the Roof indoor play world

20 minutes’ drive from Truro, you’ll find Raze the Roof indoor play world. There’s something to keep all ages entertained, from toddlers to teens. Let them run and play on the mega play frame, climbing wall, astro glide and much more! There’s also Laser Storm – a game of tag played with your very own laser, and a hit with big kids and grown-ups!

Llama Lland

If you have some little animal lovers in your family, a visit to Llama Lland is a must during your Cornish getaway. This charming local farm is home to a lovely collection of friendly llamas. Visitors can enjoy a tour before selecting a llama to take for a walk, where they take in the stunning farmland, ancient woods and glorious views before heading back for a delicious Cornish cream tea in the garden!

Treasure Trails

Find a new way to discover Truro with this fun treasure hunt! The trail is self-guided, meaning you can follow it at your own pace – perhaps even stopping off for a bite to eat or a cup of tea halfway round! Starting at Lemon Quay, solve a series of clues to lead you around Truro’s characterful streets, taking in all the sights as you solve the puzzles.

For couples

Truro Cathedral

There’s something special to be said about stepping into the magnificent space of Truro Cathedral. From the 14th Century Petra to the contemporary St Margaret’s Chapel, not to mention the three stunning, circular rose windows, there are some fantastic things to see. The Cathedral also runs free tours between April and October, Monday to Thursday. Once you’ve had your look around, make sure to pop into the restaurant for a tasty breakfast or lunch, or see what you can find in the shop.

Skinners Brewery

Just a short walk from Truro city centre, Skinners Brewery was opened in 1997 and since then has gone from strength to strength. They’ve won many awards over the years, but still remain a family business with a dedication to the local area and produce. The brewery holds popular regular tours, where ale-loving visitors can learn how their famous brews are made, as well as enjoy a generous tasting session (booking in advance is essential). There’s also a traditional pub on site, where you can enjoy the whole range of beers in a friendly, lively atmosphere.

There’s nothing like sharing a drink or two beside a cosy fire, and Truro has plenty of pubs and bars where you and your partner can settle down for a beer, gin and tonic or even a hearty pub meal. Shops in Truro

Truro is a fantastic city for enjoying a spot of shopping. Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm

Healey’s Cyder Farm is a 15-minute drive from Truro. It’s the largest cyder market in Cornwall, and has been run by the Healey family since it’s creation in 1986. As well as producing some famous ciders, the farm has been developed into a fun attraction, with a museum, restaurant, animals and tractor rides. Of course, you and your friends can also enjoy an informative tour, which ends with a full sampling session.
